What were your parents doing at your age?
While I was busy worrying about my school lunchbox, they were busy making sure we had a home to eat in.
You know that classic Tom & Jerry episode where Jerry is running around, causing chaos, and Tom is constantly cleaning up the mess, dodging disasters, and somehow keeping it all together?
Yeah. That’s parenthood.
While we were busy being anxious little kids, they were busy being tired superheroes—working, sacrificing, and making sure we had everything we needed, even when we didn’t know how much effort went into it.
🎒 Me at That Age: The Overthinking Worrier
There were three major crises I dealt with as a kid:
1️⃣ What if I reach school late and everyone stares at me like I committed a crime?
2️⃣ What if the teacher calls my name for an elocution competition? (Public speaking? No, thank you. Can I be excused?)
3️⃣ What if I forget my lunchbox at home and have to survive on just my water bottle? (Absolute horror.)
✅ Mood: Anxious about everything that didn’t actually matter.
✅ Priorities: Avoid getting noticed, avoid public speaking, avoid unnecessary drama.
Meanwhile…
“Childhood worries were a joke—being late to school felt like the end of the world, while our parents were out there, handling the ACTUAL world.”
🦸♂️ My Parents at My Age: The Selfless Providers
Did I ever ask my parents what they were doing at my age?
Nope. But I didn’t have to.
Because I already know.
🔹 They were working non-stop, making sure we had food, a home, and an education.
🔹 They were budgeting every rupee, so we never felt like we had less.
🔹 They were prioritizing us over their dreams, their comfort, and their sleep.
They were in full-on survival mode, making sure we never had to feel the weight of their struggles.
“We had the luxury to dream because they never stopped working on reality.”
🎭 The Tom & Jerry Parenting Effect
If childhood was a Tom & Jerry episode, then:
✅ We were Jerry—running around, making tiny problems seem huge.
✅ Our parents were Tom—handling every crisis, dealing with responsibilities, and cleaning up after us without making it look difficult.
Except in real life, Tom doesn’t get to take a break.
“We were Jerry—small problems, big reactions. They were Tom—handling all the chaos while pretending it was fine.”
🔮 The Realization That Hits You Like a Frying Pan
You grow up thinking your parents are just “Mom & Dad.”
But one day, you realize…
🚀 They were fighters.
🚀 They were problem solvers.
🚀 They were selfless in ways we never understood.
They weren’t just raising kids—they were raising future adults while dealing with their own struggles.
And they did it without ever making us feel like it was a burden.
“One day, you realize your parents weren’t just ‘Mom & Dad’—they were warriors who made magic happen on a budget.”
⚡ The Jugnu Philosophy on Parents
💡 We will never fully understand everything they sacrificed for us.
💡 But we can appreciate it.
💡 And if we can’t repay them for everything, the least we can do is make them proud.
“Childhood was carefree because they carried the weight of responsibility. Now, it’s time we carry their legacy with pride.”
🏆 Yours in gratitude & childhood flashbacks,
